Strategic considerations: factors in planning

18 Jul 2013

What do we need to know, comprehensively, in order to document “what needs to be done”? My current list:

  1. Location – geographic locations, because missionaries go to a place.
  2. How many – size of population – scale. Because we have to reach individuals, at the most extreme element.
  3. Growing/Declining – where the scale of the task remaining is growing and how fast.
  4. Ease / Barriers to access – things like urbanization, literacy, language, culture, transportation access, etc.
  5. Open/Closed – a difficult thing to measure, but are the people in this place more or less open to the Good News, as individuals?
  6. Families Open/Closed – how difficult or easy is it for the Gospel to pass along relational lines, thus multiplying?
  7. Governments open/closed – how quick will governments be to stamp out the networks of churches at the very beginning, when they are most fragile?
  8. Local church presence – is their a local body of believers?

What happened to the unreached this week?

Each Friday I send a newsletter to over 2,400 mission activists, advocates, managers, field workers, and pastors - about what happened among the unreached, and what could happen next. Each issue comes with a curated list of nearly 100 links, and note why each is important. You can get on the list for free.
